As a people made new through the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross, we pray to God our Father that he will grant our petitions which we make in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ.
Let us pray for the worshipping community of the church: may she continue, throughout the world, to offer the sacrifice of the Mass by which Jesus Christ atones for the sins of the world: (pause) Lord hear us.
We pray for the leaders of our country: may they appreciate the debt that they owe to the Christian heritage of our land, a land which has been bequeathed to us by the Christians who have gone before us: (pause) Lord hear us.
For those whose sufferings in Christ seem to be in vain: may they be helped in mind and heart by uniting their sufferings with their redeeming Lord. May they place themselves and their lives in the hands of God, their loving Father: (pause) Lord hear us.
Let us pray for a greater appreciation of the Mass: may we, in loving obedience to our Lord continue to do what he asks of us. May we always remember that he gave his life that we might not only live our lives here on earth well, but that we may inherit the eternal life of heaven: (pause) Lord hear us.
We join our prayers with Mary, in whom God’s promise found fulfilment, as we say together: Hail Mary … etc.
We pray in silence for our own petitions to God our Father who loves us.
God our Father, we make our prayers with confidence, knowing that you are for ever faithful to your promises. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
