With Mary, Joseph and the shepherds, we rejoice at the birth of Jesus Christ, our Saviour. In confidence, let us pray to God our heavenly Father as we place our needs before him.

Let us pray for the Church: through her joyous proclamation of God’s Son, may all the ends of the earth see the salvation of our God: Lord hear us …

We pray for all Christian leaders of society: may they, by wise and compassionate laws, show respect for the dignity of individual human beings which took on new meaning through the birth of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world: (pause) Lord hear us.

For all who still walk in darkness without the light of Christian faith: may they find liberation from their doubts and lack of faith through an awareness of God’s love revealed through the birth of Jesus, his Son: (pause)  Lord hear us

Let us pray for a deepening of our trust in God: may we always strive to be open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in our lives. May his plan be fulfilled in everything we say and do: (pause) Lord hear us.

We pray with Mary, Mother of the Saviour, as we say: Hail Mary … etc.

In the silence of our hearts, we make our prayer to the Father.

God our Father, your Word took flesh and lived among us. May the words of the living Gospel take flesh in our lives so that we may bring your message of hope and peace to everyone. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
